Quad 66 CD ST1 and ST2 details

Quad 66CD ST1

This is a major upgrade to both power supply and audio circuits. A mains filter is added at the mains input to reduce incoming RF noise. All power supply capacitors are replaced with larger size capacitors, it most cases using Elna Cerafine capacitors. The voltage regulators are replaced with lower noise high quality regulators from OnSemi. All other electrolytic capacitors are replaced with Elna Cerafine capacitors of the same capacitance. The audio op amps are replaced with OPA227 series op amps and the audio output capacitors are removed and replaced with wire links. (If you are not using a Quad pre-amp then we fit two new Nichicon Muse ES non-polarised capacitors to the output.) This upgrade proves a significant reduction in power supply noise which enables the digital circuits to do there job much more accurately. The changes to the audio circuits provide a much more neutral sound and all together these upgrades provide, more detail, better stereo image and better depth of sound stage. A great improvement to a good CD player.

Quad 66CD ST2

This upgrade does all of the above but adds a Net Audio RockClock to replace the crystal clock for the DAC. Details of how the RockClock improves the sound can be found here. In summary the RockClock further improves the stereo image and sound stage and also significantly increases the detail of the sound produced. This is a fantastic CD player.

Quad 66CD ST3

This upgrade includes all the above but replaces key power supply regulators with a Murata 5V DC to DC converter and + and - 15V with ClassD discrete regulators.
