Quad Amplifier Upgrades Upgrades are available for a range of Quad amplifiers. In all cases the upgrades consist of replacing key components of the amplifiers with more modern equivalents. In most cases this involves replacing operational amplifiers, signal path and power supply capacitors and de-coupling capacitors. In some cases key resistors are replaced with very low noise types, especially around very sensitive input stages. All the upgrades are designed to significantly reduce the noise and distortion produced by the components used originally. Although no one questions the design of these amplifiers, their performance is compromised by the choice of components used at the time of manufacturing. Sometimes this may have been driven by cost, in other cases today's component types were just not available.
