Quad 405-3 NA Upgrade - Full Details This upgrade uses the Net Audio Quad 405-3 Module. This module combines all of the best Quad 405 upgrades from many years experience into a new module. The modules replace the original amplifier modules. Full details of the new modules can be found here. The power supply is modified to dual mono supplies using a Net Audio module which carries 4 x 10,000 uF capacitors with small capacitors de-coupling the main capacitors, and two bridge rectifiers. This significantly improves the tightness and presence of the bass and also improves the stereo image. The secondary and DC wiring is replaced with a heavier gauge of wire to better handle the current. A full mains filter is fitted using an integrated module which includes a co-wound choke and suppression capacitors. The inputs are changed to high quality phono sockets connected with short OFC cables plus the speaker sockets are replaced with high quality gold plated 4mm binding posts. The input for full output is changed from 0.5V to 1.5V. A complementary modification is available for the Quad 34 to increase the output to match. The Quad 44 already has this level of output. Other modern pre-amps and CD players also have a suitable level of output. This represents the ultimate upgrade of any Quad 405 and produces stunning improvements in sound quality all round.
